잎

잎은 호생하고 타원상 난형 또는 긴 타원형이며 양끝이 좁고 가장자리에 선상(線狀)의 잔톱니가 있으며 잎표면에는 털이 없고 뒷면에 털이 있으나 점차 없어지며 탁엽(托葉)은 피침형이고 길이 7-8㎜이며 가장자리에 선모가 있고 곧 떨어진다.

열매

이과(梨果)는 타원형 또는 거의 구형이며 지름 8-15cm로서 대형이고 목질이 발달하며 9월에 황색으로 익고 향기가 좋으나 과육은 시며 굳다. 과실을 당목가(唐木瓜)라 한다.

꽃

꽃은 연한 홍색으로 4-5월에 피며 지름 2.5-3cm로서 가지끝에 1개씩 달리며 꽃받침잎은 난형 둔두이고 선상의 톱니가 있으며 안쪽에 백색 면모가 있고 표면에 털이 없다. 꽃잎은 도란형 미요두이며 밑부분 끝에 잔털이 나고 수술은 길이 7-8mm로서 털이 없으며 꽃밥은 황색이다.

꽃받침, 꽃잎은 5개, 수술은 약 20개이다. 암술머리는 5개로 갈라진다.

줄기

소지에는 가시가 없으며 어릴 때는 털이 있으며 2년지는 자갈색으로서 윤채가 있다. 수피는 붉은갈색과 녹색 얼룩무늬가 있으며 비늘모양으로 벗겨진다.

▶수직적으로 표고 100~170m, 수평적으로 전남, 전북, 경북, 충북, 경기도에 야생한다.

명쟈性溫味酸

 

성(性)은 온(溫)하고 미(味)는 산(酸)하다.

 

消痰止渴可進酒

 

소담(消痰), 지갈(止渴)하고 (해주(解酒)하여) 진주(進酒)할 수 있다.

 

其形酷類木瓜而差小欲辨之看疵間別有重疵如乳者爲木瓜無此者爲惡擅

 

그 형(形)은 초류(醋類)로 모과(木瓜)가 좀 작다. 변별(辨別)하는 데는 체부분(蒂部分)을 보고 따로 중체(重蒂)가 유(乳)처럼 되어 있으며, 모과(木瓜)이고, 그렇지 않는 것은 명사(榠樝)이다.

 

 

功用與木瓜大同小異亦治囍亂轉筋解酒毒去惡心及咽酸吐黃水其氣辛香置衣箱中殺盤魚《本草》

 

공력(功力)은 모과(木瓜)와 대동소이(大同小異)하다. 곽란전근(癨亂轉筋)을 치(治)하고, 주독(酒毒)을 해(解)하며, 오심(惡心) 및 인산(咽酸), 황수(黃水)를 토(吐)하는 것을 거(去)한다. 그 기(氣)는 신향(新鄕)하여 이것을 의상중(衣箱中)에 넣어 두면 두(蠹), 충(蟲)을 살(殺)한다.[본초].
